The famous lagoon of Balos is about 56 km northwest of Chania and 17 km northwest of Kissamos. It is a shallow sandy beach formed between Hersonissos of Gramvousa and the smaller Cape Tigani. Balos is definitely one of the most talked about and visited beaches in Crete. It is famous for its turquoise waters, wild natural beauty, and exquisite striking scenery. The lagoon of Balos has white sand and exotic white, deep blue-green waters. The sea is very shallow and warm, which is an ideal destination for families with young children. In many places, the sand has a lovely pink color that has resulted from crushed shells. Beyond the rocks, the deeper and cooler waters make for ideal snorkeling. The surrounding area has rare flora and fauna species as it is part of the Natura protection program.
Gramvousa is the name of two small islands of Crete. The two islands (Imeri Gramvousa and Agria Gramvousa) are located in the northwestern part of the Prefecture of Chania. They are located in the municipality of Kissamos. At the eastern tip of Crete are two islands Wild and Imeri Gramvousa. Imeri Gramvousa is famous for its beautiful beach, the wreck of a cargo ship, as well as its Venetian castle (built by the Venetians in 1579-1584 to help protect the island against the Turks). The fortress is built at a height of 137 meters on a steep flat hill with access from the eastern side where a helical path is formed. It is worth visiting to see the incredible view over the fortress. You may visit the beautiful beach with clear blue waters where you can swim and sunbathe. Unfortunately, there is no infrastructure in the area where you can get food or water. However, we offer some snacks and refreshments on board to cover the necessities. The distance from Kissamos port is about 90 minutes.
